James Pitt D.O.

Dr. Pitt joined Columbia Surgical Associates in 1993. A native of Iowa, he graduated Dr. Pittfrom Northeast Missouri State University and attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his Doctorate in 1988. He served his internship and general surgery residency at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in General Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

In 1993, he opened an office in Osage Beach, Missouri and built a large general surgery practice. He helped the Lake Ozark General Hospital attain trauma center designation, was an associate member of the Missouri Committee on Trauma and introduced advanced laparoscopic procedures to that institution. While practicing in Osage Beach he was active in hospital leadership serving and chairing many committees including Chairman of Surgery.

In 2000, he joined his partners in the Columbia office. He has led the development of a bariatric surgery program (surgery for weight loss) at Boone Hospital Center. While currently offering laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, Dr. Pitt preformed many open and laparoscopic gastric bypasses starting in 2001. In addition to weight loss surgery advanced laparoscopic procedures including laparoscopic hernia repairs, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, laparoscopic Heller myotomy remain a focus of his practice. The surgical treatment of breast cancer is another area of interest for Dr. Pitt.

Dr. Pitt remains active in medical leadership after recently serving as president of the Boone County Medical Society, and Chair of Surgery at Boone Hospital Center. Like the other surgeons at Columbia Surgical Associates, Dr. Pitt is committed to education of patients, staff and residents that train with Columbia Surgical.
